Campaigns

A study from the London Wildlife Trust found that the city was losing the equivalent of two-and-a-half Hyde Parks of greenery every year. This is mostly from private gardens being converted to patios, offices and artificial lawns. It means that wildlife is slowly being squeezed out, and it is increasingly important we protect our designated sites and the Metropolitan Green Chain. The following matters are of particular concern to us:

Artificial Grass Pitch on Sir Joseph Hood

Plans to build a controversial AGP in the park are likely to be submitted by Merton Council on Spring 2026.

Motspur Park Gas Holders Development

The most important landmark on Sparrowfeld is scheduled to come down by 2029, but what will replace it? And is it acceptable?

‘Hide Hill’ (Horse Fields)

We believe this should be designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.

Political boundaries and representatives

The unique nature of Sparrowfeld means it is split over three Boroughs, four council wards and three parliamentary constituencies. Below we provide a map of all the political boundaries and the names of the elected representatives. If you feel passionately about our campaigns or any other patch issues, feel free to get in touch with the relevant people.

In addition to the above, you may wish to contact the local GLA members:

  • Leonie Cooper (Labour): Merton and Wandsworth
  • Neil Garratt (Conservative): Croydon and Sutton
  • Gareth Roberts (Liberal Democrat): Hounslow, Kingston upon Thames and Richmond upon Thames
