Sparrowfeld consists of 230 acres of contiguous green space. The area has multiple habitats, including oak woodland, grazed grassland, meadows, shrub, scrub, rivers, lakes and reed beds. Wherever you walk, our gas holders loom large over the patch.
The whole area is designated Metropolitan Open Land and Metropolitan Green Chain. The individual sites are well connected by footpaths and bridle tracks that follow historic boundaries. Some of these lanes are lined with old hedgerow oaks and scrub and also are important ‘green corridors’. Much of the area is designated as Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation.

The patch is unique in that it is split between three London Boroughs. Four if you include Wandsworth, which owns some of the land. This means that Sparrowfeld rarely gets the credit or coverage it deserves. It is easy for Councils to forget they have these individual sites and that “the sum is greater than the parts”.
